Lisa Sharpe is from Radford, Virginia. After graduating from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) in 1999 she stuck around Blacksburg and taught kindergarten for two years at Check Elementary School. Needing a change from the mountains she headed to Wilmington in 2001 when she began working at CFCI. She stayed in the 4/5 loop for many years until the 2010/2011 school year when she had the opportunity to move to the 2/3 loop.
Lisa lives in Wilmington and has two children, Addison and Conor at CFCI. She enjoys spending time with friends, playing outside with her family, and going to the beach.
Julie Naylor (Ms. Julie) completed her student teaching in 2008 right here at CFCI! She then worked briefly as a long term sub before entering graduate school. Julie completed her Master’s degree with a focus in Language and Literacy while working as an Exceptional Children’s Teacher Assistant at CFCI. After graduation Julie relocated to Texas to work with low income students before returning to join the 2/3 loop in 2011. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade for six years before she got married, completed her National Board Certification, and moved to Los Angeles, California. After two years of west coast sunsets and Hollywood stars, Mrs. Julie is HOME and so excited to be back with her CFCI students, families, colleagues!
Jennifer Medwick holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from UNCW and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Penn State University, so she loves to build lessons around STEM concepts whenever she can!Jennifer is a native of western New York but has made eastern North Carolina home for most of her adult life and she eagerly brings teaching experience from both New Hanover and Brunswick county schools to CFCI. Jennifer enjoys cooking, gardening, working out, spending time with her family, and cheering for her Nittany Lions! She, her husband, two daughters, lab-mix dog, and bearded dragon live in Wilmington.
I first graduated from UNCW with a degree in Psychology and then went back to school to get my second degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for several years at Bradley Creek (Title I Reading, Kindergarten and Fifth Grade) and Williston Middle School (7th grade Math/Science, 6th grade Science/Social Studies/Language Arts), I finally found my home at CFCI in 2001. I was the first middle school teacher that CFCI hired when then decided to expand from a K-5 school to a K-8 school! After being a middle school teacher for several years, when a position opened in 3rd grade, I jumped at the chance to get back into elementary school, and have been in the 2/3 loop ever since!
Since I have been at CFCI, several wonderful things have happened. In 2005 I got married to Aaron Gardner (but still haven’t changed my name…maybe one day). We do not have any kids but do have the cutest little puggle puppy in the world name Hula. After getting married, I earned my Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy and am now certified as a Reading Specialist for grades K-12. I also achieved my National Board Certification while undertaking my Master’s Degree. I am a life-long learner indeed!
When I am not at school, I enjoy being on and around the water with my family. We are either out on the boat or playing in the pool. Aaron would love for me to go surfing with him, (because that is his favorite thing), but I’m not very good at it! That’s okay though because I did teach him how to snowboard and we love to do that together whenever we get the chance!
