Sarah McCorcle is originally from Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from VA Tech in History and English. She began her career in education as a counselor/ teacher with the Eckerd Youth Alternatives Wilderness Therapeutic Program. After “camp life” she received her Masters of Education degree at NC State. She has taught middle grades language arts and social studies at CFCI since 2002.

In her free time, she loves spending time with her husband and two daughters, being on the water, and reading.



Seffie Ovacz |7th & 8th Grade Social Studies| sovacz@cfci.net


Seffie Ovacz, a New Jersey native, studied Political Science and Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University, where her father was also a professor and the first game of college football ever was played in 1869 between Rutgers and Princeton. She graduated Cum Laude from Rutgers in 2001 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. From there she went on to graduate school in Nashville, TN at Vanderbilt University and finished her Masters in Political Science in New York at Binghamton University (SUNY Binghamton).

Looking for warmer weather, she and her husband moved to Wilmington in 2004 where Seffie quickly added teaching licenses in Language Arts and Social Studies to her list of accomplishments. She joins the CFCI team after spending five years teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies at Wilmington Academy of Arts and Sciences.

She and her husband have two dogs, Finnigan and Teal, and in 2009 their family was joined by their daughter, Bella. On weekends they can usually be found at the beach, in the pool, snuggled up watching movies, or cheering for the Rutgers football team.

Carla Bromstead

Carla is a native of Miami, FL but has lived in several different areas of the globe since high school. In 2002 she earned a Bachelors degree in Humanities from the University of Colorado, Boulder before realizing education and children are her true calling. In 2008 she received her license in Elementary Education at UNCW where she fell in love with this city and its’ people and has remained ever since. She has seven years of experience teaching in the upper elementary grades, and is excited for this new adventure teaching 6th grade Math and Science at CFCI!

In her spare time, you can usually find Carla and her husband outside chasing after their three young children on one of their many adventures biking, swimming, beaching, or exploring the local sea life. Occasionally you can also find them lazing around on the couch reading or watching movies.

Brandt Hart | 7th & 8th Grade Science | bhart@cfci.net 


Brandt is a North Carolina native and has been happily tethered to the coastline for the last eight years. He earned a BS in Marine Biology and a Masters in middle grades science education, both from UNCW. After dabbling in kayak instruction, magazine writing, and veterinarian work, he’s pretty sure teaching is the most fun he’s had yet (less dog fur). If you can’t find him in the classroom, Brandt is usually in the ocean looking for waves or trying to convince his garden to give him vegetables.

Kim Carr is a native of Florida, but has lived in North Carolina since 2005. She received her Bachelors of Science in education from Florida International University and has been teaching upper elementary and middle school for almost twenty years. She holds certifications in Elementary Education, Middle Grades Language Arts and Middle Grades Social Studies. Kim is currently taking classes at UNCW to obtain a degree in film studies.

When Kim is not in the classroom, she enjoys being outside, reading, writing, and spending time with her family.

Ruben Echavarria | 7th & 8th Grade Math| rechavarria@cfci.net 


Ruben Echavarria is from Setauket, NY and has recently moved to Wilmington to join the CFCI community. He started his post secondary career at Penn State University where he studied Architectual Engineering while playing baseball. During his baseball career at Penn State he embarked on a mentorship program tutoring students ranging from high school mathematics all the way through differential equations at the collegiate level. His many pupils during that time frame inspired him to consider a future in the education world. Upon securing a National Championship in the NCBA World Series, he then turned his focus towards a Mathematics Degree in Secondary Education at Dowling College. Mr. Echavarria has taught Mathematics and Computer Programming for grades 5-8 including Math I for 4 years prior to joining the CFCI family.

Aside from a career in Mathematics Education, Mr. Echavarria has also worked in many summer camp programs as a Baseball Director, Orientation and Special Events Coordinator, and a Division Leader in charge of overseeing the fun, safety, and overall well being of the entire Middle Boys Division. His passion for helping people reach their potential is evident in the energy and enthusiasm brought with him on a daily basis.
