Lisa Sharpe is from Radford, Virginia. After graduating from Virginia Tech (Go Hokies!) in 1999 she stuck around Blacksburg and taught kindergarten for two years at Check Elementary School. Needing a change from the mountains she headed to Wilmington in 2001 when she began working at CFCI. She stayed in the 4/5 loop for many years until the 2010/2011 school year when she had the opportunity to move to the 2/3 loop.
Lisa lives in Wilmington and has two children, Addison and Conor at CFCI. She enjoys spending time with friends, playing outside with her family, and going to the beach.

Marla is originally from Tabor City, NC and moved to Wilmington in 1995 to attend UNCW earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She returned to UNCW to obtain her Teaching License, graduating in 2009. That’s when she joined the CFCI community first as an Intern and then as a Teacher Assistant. Marla has worked with many teachers and grade levels here at CFCI and has loved every minute. She is very excited to have her own classroom full of excited 2nd and 3rd grade students.
In her free time, Marla loves to spend time with her family, which include her husband and two energetic boys and one sweet dog!! She loves to dance and read and travel.
Julie Sartorius graduated from UNCW in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education after completing her internship in first grade at CFCI. As she developed her background in inquiry based learning, she fell in love with the open and caring environment CFCI has to offer. After her internship Ms. Julie continued to work at CFCI from 2008 to 2010 as an Exceptional Children’s Teacher Assistant while she attended graduate school at UNCW and received her Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy. For the 2010-2011 school year Ms. Julie taught second grade at a KIPP school in Texas but is thrilled to be back home in Wilmington and teaching third grade at CFCI.
I first graduated from UNCW with a degree in Psychology and then went back to school to get my second degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for several years at Bradley Creek (Title I Reading, Kindergarten and Fifth Grade) and Williston Middle School (7th grade Math/Science, 6th grade Science/Social Studies/Language Arts), I finally found my home at CFCI in 2001. I was the first middle school teacher that CFCI hired when then decided to expand from a K-5 school to a K-8 school! After being a middle school teacher for several years, when a position opened in 3rd grade, I jumped at the chance to get back into elementary school, and have been in the 2/3 loop ever since!
Since I have been at CFCI, several wonderful things have happened. In 2005 I got married to Aaron Gardner (but still haven’t changed my name…maybe one day). We do not have any kids but do have the cutest little puggle puppy in the world name Hula. After getting married, I earned my Master’s Degree in Language and Literacy and am now certified as a Reading Specialist for grades K-12. I also achieved my National Board Certification while undertaking my Master’s Degree. I am a life-long learner indeed!
When I am not at school, I enjoy being on and around the water with my family. We are either out on the boat or playing in the pool. Aaron would love for me to go surfing with him, (because that is his favorite thing), but I’m not very good at it! That’s okay though because I did teach him how to snowboard and we love to do that together whenever we get the chance!
